Finland is famous for being the Happiest Country in the World, as well as having the world’s best education system and cleanest air. Finns refer to their country as ‘Suomi’, but no-one knows where that name came from, or why, even after centuries of being called Finland, Suomi still survives. People often do not include Finland in their list of places to spend their holidays, and they lose a lot. This country has so much to offer that is not limited to the usual tourist places. Here are just a few of the main reasons to visit such an amazing and diverse country as Finland!
Finland is one of the few countries in the world where lost wallets and mobile phones get returned to their rightful owner*. People feel safe walking alone in city parks or use public transport regardless of the hour.
Some of world’s best Northern Lights can be spotted in Finnish Lapland. The Aurora Borealis – as they are also called – can appear more than 200 nights a year. That’s pretty much every winter night.
THE ONE AND ONLY SANTA CLAUS
Finland is the only place in the world to meet the real Santa Claus. Although originally from Korvatunturi, the man in red now resides in Rovaniemi, Lapland, where he greets visitors all year round. His friends are the lovely reindeers and huskies. You can enjoy snowmobile safaris and husky and reindeer sledge rides !
Here are our top suggestions for places to go and things to do whilst in Finland: Helsinki, Lakeland, Kayaking, Lapland, Karelia & Igloo Village Kakslauttanen, Fried Vendace (Coregonus Albula) is a summer-time delicacy in Finland. The national beverage of Finland is Milk (sometimes curdled), which is safe to drink (as is water) throughout the country. Two famous Finnish liqueurs should be tasted: Lakka, made from the saffron-colored wild cloudberry, and Mesimarja, made from the Arctic Brambleberry.
What is the best time to visit Finland? It depends on what you’d like to experience: for plenty of snow and winter activities, December to March is the best time. For springtime sun and the revival of nature after the winter, April to May is the period. For long and warm summer days and plenty of events, opt for June, July and August.
Like all Nordic countries, Finland wouldn’t be considered as a cheap place for shopping, but for high quality goods it must rank as one of the best in the world. The country has garnered international acclaim in the field of design, and its glassware, homeware, ceramics and furniture are much sought after.
We have a unique way of meeting your adventurous expectations!
