Norway is known as the Land of the Midnight Sun. It is famous for its phenomenal fjords, lakes and magical skies. Norway is also famous for its languages, Vikings and folklore, being eco-friendly, and oil production. Also, many inhabitants of Norway are renowned ski fanatics, frozen pizza lovers, and Tesla drivers. Norway is a once-in-a-lifetime destination and the essence of its appeal is remarkably simple: this is one of the most beautiful countries on earth. Its home to more natural wonders than we can count. It has stunning cities, really happy locals and a spectacular light show. Since Norway historically is a Christian-Lutheran country, the constitution states that the Norwegian culture and laws should reflect Christian-Lutheran values and humanitarian principles. The Christian traditions are also reflected in national holidays like Christmas and Easter.
Nature is the first thing we all have in mind when thinking about Norway, the Fjords, and the beautiful mountains with snow. But that is not it; there are many other things that make Norway popular. Fjords, Lofoten Islands, Oslo, Northern Lights. Oslo, the capital, is a city of green spaces and museums. Preserved 9th-century Viking ships are displayed at Oslo’s Viking Ship Museum. Bergen, with colorful wooden houses, is the starting point for cruises to the dramatic Sognefjord.
With good weather it is absolutely beautiful and worth a visit. Oslo is more a typical Scandinavian capital, combining past, present and the future – such as Copenhagen and Stockholm. It has also some very romantic old districts but also the very modern business buildings at main station or the new opera. Although Oslo may top Bergen with its highly innovative buildings and history, Bergen is no doubt far more scenic than Oslo. Seven mountains surround Bergen (yes, seven), and the most easily visited is Fløyen, which is reachable by funicular. 76 days of midnight sun between May and July greets travelers in Northern Norway. The further north you go, the more nights of midnight sun you get. During the summer months, you can experience up to 24 hours of sunlight above the Arctic Circle, which means more time to enjoy the sights and make new discoveries.
Norway is a very safe country to travel to. Its crime rates are low, and the most likely crimes that you’ll encounter are petty theft and car break-ins. Still, you should be wary of pickpockets, since they are an increasing issue in larger cities and towns, especially during summer. The coastal areas usually have relatively mild winters (still with snow and great skiing conditions in the mountains, though), while the inland parts have cold winters with plenty of snow, and hot and relatively dry summers, especially in the eastern parts of the country. The national dish of Norway, fårikål, is hearty mutton and cabbage stew, typically served with boiled potatoes. The list of ingredients is scarce: only mutton, cabbage, and salt, pepper, and water, although some recipes call for the broth to be thickened with flour. Some popular souvenirs you can buy include Norwegian woolen sweaters, Norwegian chocolate, liquor ice candy, and the classic Norwegian cheese slicer! If it’s food you’re after, head to a Norwegian supermarket, especially for chocolate or other candy.
